  1. What language is spoken in Barbados?
    The official language is English, but most inhabitants speak a Creole dialect.
  2. What is the weather like?
    The temperature ranges between 28oC/82F and 32oC/88F during the day throughout the year and 21oC/70F to 23oC/73F at night.  There is average of 8-9 hours sunshine every day and the ocean temperatures range between 25oC/77F and 28oC/82F.  The rainiest month is July with an average of 18 days rainfall, but the showers are brief.  The driest months are European and North American winter months.  The constant trade winds blow over the island making the tropical climate perfect.
  3. How big is Barbados?
    Barbados is an island measuring 34Km (20 miles) by 22Km (about 15 miles).  It has a population of around 260,000.
  4. Where exactly is it?
    Barbados is the easternmost of the Caribbean islands and lies 13 degrees north of the equator.
  5. How do I get there?
    There are direct flights to Barbados from many European and North American airports.  Flight times are around 3.5 hours to Miami, 5 hours to New York, 9 hours to Los Angeles and 7.5 hours to London.  There are also ferries to and from neighbouring islands.  See our travel page for more information.
  6. Will I be picked up from the airport?
    Yes we will arrange for a car to meet you at the airport and take you to the Villa.
  7. Do I need to hire a car?
    There are local busses which will take you anywhere on the island for a flat fare of Barbados $1.50.  The supermarket, Big B's, is a 5 minute walk away and they run a shuttle bus to take you back with your shopping.  The beach is a few minutes walk away from the villa.  However, if you would like to explore on your own, we can arrange car hire for you at $500 (Barbados) per week.

  9. Is Barbados safe?
    Barbados has one of the highest standards of living in the Caribbean.  It has a low crime rate, especially with regard to tourists.  The villa's neighbours are very friendly and helpful and there is an effective neighbourhood watch scheme.  However, like anywhere else, it is sensible not to leave valuables unsupervised on the beach or in your car.
  10. What kind of activities are there to do?
    Barbados has many different types of activities to suit all tastes. We have listed a few here, but you can also visit here for more information.
    Next to the Villa is the Rockley Golf Club.
    Slightly further away is the Barbados Golf Club.
    For those who love animals, there is the Barbados Wildlife Reserve.
    A 5 hour cruise with a delicious lunch with Harbour Master Cruises.

    There are all the usual water sports which you can book on arrival.
    There are lots of local festivals and carnivals.
  11. What is the local currency?

  12. Are there banks where I can exchange money?
    Yes there are banks next to the supermarket about 5 minutes walk away.  In fact we suggest you exchange your money on the island as we have found you can get better rates that way.
  13. Can I get married in Barbados?
    Barbados is a great place to get married.  There is no required waiting period or minimum length of stay. Application for a marriage licence must be made by both parties in person at the office of the Ministry of Home Affairs.  Good information sites are:
